To begin with, why is the name so scary? I mean, “Hush, Hush”. Just the title sends shivers down my spine.
So obviously when I picked up this book, I was expecting something dark and cold and people jumping from behind doors etc. On that account, I’m thankful that the novel didn’t live up to my expectations. I mean, I am someone who sleeps all alone and usually it is my novels that put me to sleep at night. So had this book actually contained something hush hush, I sure wouldn’t have made it through all four books.
Coming to the plot, well…you will definitely find a lot of comparisons to The Twilight Saga. And to be honest, it does have fragments similar to that story. But I’m not somebody who has read The Twilight series and so probably I’m not the best person to comment on those lines. But that makes me the right person to be able to roll out a review quite free of the Twilight bias.
So coming to the characters, Patch… well after his blackness stops scaring me, and I realize that in fact he is the hero and not the villain of the story, he did make me go “Hahhhh! Hahhh!” (long wistful sighs). And yes, don’t judge me for being the kind of girl who thinks of fictional boys in my free time. As for our heroine, she was the right amounts of innocent and gutsy to hold her ground against the mysteriousness and shadiness of Patch. Random thought- Nora having big curly hair, the kind that can’t be tamed, didn’t really fit well with her personality. I mean, I don’t know why but throughout the series, I visualised her as someone with that frizzy, unkept kind of hair.
Although not one of the main protagonist, this gal definitely deserves a mention: Vee. I mean, she totally steals the show throughout the series. Although, and don’t blame me for spoiling the fun for those who haven’t yet reached the end of the series, I didn’t really like how it ended for Vee. I think she should have remained her normal self in her own abnormal way.
To be frank, the whole climax and the way events unfold in the end seemed a little too abrupt. I mean, for a four book series about angels of all kinds and hybrids’ and what not, the way in which the finale happened was a bit too sudden and ordinary.
Overall, it is probably a good book to read as a respite when you’ve had too much of sugar from reading hard core romances. It’s worth a read just to get introduced to Vee. But like all series, its doze is best taken at intervals and gaps.
