Different, distinct, unique. All the imaginable synonyms describe this one perfectly. Creepy serial killers who make you cringe with their extra creepy murders is what comes to my mind when I think of James Patterson. In fact, his books have successfully given me nights of insomnia, so now my instincts tell me to stay away from his books. But the ‘thriller loving book reader’ in me keeps pushing me to attempt to read another novel by James Patterson. So I jumped at the idea of reading a book which gages three of my interests in its title itself: Egyptian royal history, a murder conspiracy and James Patterson. Throw in the fact that Mr. Patterson makes it very clear in the Author’s note itself that all the facts presented have been extensively researched and not just a work of fiction, and I went “Oh My God! Am I dreaming???”
The book is exactly what the title suggests. It weaves the lives of these long lost Egyptian kings and queens in a story like manner, and trust me, you’ll be thankful after reading this book that you don’t live in a time when a broken leg or a tooth infection could end up killing you. And if you are wondering, ‘Dude! Where are the mummies?’ fear not. The book also covers the very interesting life of the Egyptologist who hit jackpot by discovering King Tut’s mummy.
Although the title states that it’s a non fiction, fiction lovers will not be disappointed. After all, James Patterson isn’t considered the best of fiction writers for no reason. The way he has painted the very real lives of these characters from the BC and the AD past, is no less intriguing than any of his fictional characters.
If I haven’t gushed over this book enough already, I’ll just go on to add that the mystique and enchantment that is associated with any historical plot just provides that extra edge to this book over any other suspense thriller based in the 21st century.
Over all, a definite read for lovers of the suspense and thriller genre and in fact for anyone who likes or wants to read a gripping book.
Oh and, don’t worry, the villains of this book won’t haunt you at night. So phew!!!
