Ellen comments in the book, “why can’t books be published without titles?” And truly, her book doesn’t need a title to sell. Ellen DeGeneres fans will read, listen or watch anything she puts out. I mean, the fact that people actually buy the Ellen undergarment merchandize is enough to prove how wonderfully popular this woman is. And rightly so.
Seriously… I’m Kidding delivers in every way an Ellen fan would expect to be served. Disclaimer: I listened to the audio book, which has been narrated by (wait for it) Ellen herself. And it was like binge watching Ellen monologues back to back for 3 hours.
With Ellen, you know you will get the most weirdly funny stuff told to you in the most regular manner. She goes in and out of absolutely unrelated matter and manages to make you laugh at every sentence.
This is a rare book. one of its kind. I mean, in which other book would you hear the author read out strange noises that she makes in her head?
Overall, this is a must read for all non Ellen fans (if there are any). Ellen fans have probably read it already. Or if like me, you were unaware that Ellen has published 3 books and has narrated their audiobooks, then I don’t think you would’ve waited to finish reading this review to go buy it. It will make you giggle, wiggle your eyebrows and just feel how normal it is to be weirdly funny (and that you can actually make a ton of money if you know how to deliver the mundane thoughts you have all day that you don’t tell anyone in fear of seeming stupid). Then again, that requires wit and talent, so may be you should just satisfy yourself by reading/ listening to this audiobook.
P.S. I think Ellen should take up audiobook narration full time. She truly is the best narrator I have ever come across.
