I guess anyone who’ ever read a Sophie Kinsella novel would be a fan.

Her books are just so likeable. Just like that one friend of yours who can make you laugh in any situation. She is hilarious, witty and so absolutely relatable.

I Owe You One, in my opinion, is at the bottom end (rating wise) of all  of Sophie Kinsella books. Yes, it is light hearted just as you would expect from Sophie Kinsella, but I guess the story and events get just too light hearted.

The beginning is good. You get involved with the stories of all these characters you are introduced to. But soon…the plot just starts to go back and forth between similar events. So you feel like its leading nowhere. I’d say it’s quite like real life in that way. Usually novels have a start, a crescendo somewhere in the middle and it all gets resolved at the end. this story has the start and the happy ending, but I felt it ran quite flat throughout.

It does have some funny moments, some silly traits of the characters that make you go “what??? Is she for real?” which is the hallmark of Sophie Kinsella. But again…the expectations are so high with this author that at the end I felt like I should’ve rather re read some previous Sophie Kinsella book. Throughout, I felt as if some amateur writer has written a book trying to copy Sophie Kinsella.

Over all, it’s the kind of book that I don’t think I’ll remember I ever read. If you haven’t yet read Sophie Kinsella, please read anyone of her previous books and I’d say leave this one for days when the world has no more books left.

Caution: I’m a big big fan of Sophie Kinsella. Please don’t judge the author’s complete works from this one review.
