Never Seduce a Scot

book cover: never seduce a scot

So I was looking for a nice hot historical romance because…well…some like porn, I like reading erotic novels. And Google spat out the name of this book in its results.

Well, as an erotic romance, this book failed me. But as a historical romance, I’d say this is quite an amazing one. There are three reasons for why I liked reading this book.

  1. It’s based in Scotland. And usually the historical romance pool is full of stories set in 15th century England. And if you think there won’t be much of a difference, trust me, there is. The chilly highlands with forts and warriors is an absolute contrast to the polished English high society of Dukes and Duchesses.
  2. The plot of the story is quite distinct. Now, don’t get too excited at that. It still is very much the knight in shining armour falls in love with damsel in distress. And of course, because the book is written for 21st century readers, the damsel has some substance to her. But still, the conflict in the plot is something I have never come across in any romantic novel, historical or contemporary.
  3. It is to the point and quite precise. I mean, wedding scenes aren’t over described, the confusion and conflict at the end is not as stretched as in many novels, and even though I picked up this book to enjoy some steamy romance, the fact that the characters actually feel emotionally attached before tearing away each-others clothes, lent some depth to the otherwise tried and tested storyline.

Overall, if you are a historical romance junky but are quite tired of reading about wealthy rakes sweeping head strong damsels off their feet, this one would come as a breath of fresh air.
