Christmas at Tiffany’s

London, Paris, New York. Well, just these three names strung together compel an image of fashion, art and the best of urban lifestyle in one’s head. So you can only imagine what will a 1000 page novel about a girl’s journey through these cities would have in stock for those neurons craving for the F word. The F word being FABULOUS!

This tale is a 21st century Cinderella fantasy with a bonus of not one but three fairy Godmothers.

The best aspect of the book is that you get to experience each of these countries not from the outside as would be expected from the story of a girl who has never stepped foot out of her blissful ranch in Scotland, but from the inside. I mean, praise just for the fact that you go to Paris and not one scene happens at the top of the Eiffel tower.

The theme of each new city is so well threaded into the mood of the story that

Each new city brings for Cassie a whole new look, a make shift job which makes our same old desk jobs look even more drab and a set of events that are as brand new for her as breathing is for a new born baby. You go from parties and fashion shows and Vogue and glossies in New York to wine and food and chic haircuts in Paris to the easy old school homely life loaded with sugary cupcakes in London.

I mean if you are at a low point in your life where existential thoughts like “what did I achieve in my life?” are bugging your mind, then this book is a prescribed doze for you. For one, because nothing can lift a girl’s mood like visualising haute couture can. Moreover, at the end of this book you will definitely shift your question to “what have my friends achieved in their lives?” I mean, why aren’t my friends offering me such swanky jobs???

And for those divas who are tired of reading the same old plot of girl being betrayed> girl losing all trust in love> girl starting a new life and finding the rugged Prince Charming> girl living happily ever after, well, this one goes beyond that. Trust me, you will be as indecisive about which man, city and hair style would you want Cassie to settle with in the end as Cassie herself. The story has many unpredictable turns which kept me glued to it till the very end.
