Rarely do I love the author more than the story. But Anuja Chauhan has absolutely changed that for me.
This is the third book of hers that I’m reading and I’m a fan.
Regular romance readers would understand when I say that if you hand over a set of characters to ten authors and ask them to write a story around them, you will end up with ten quite similar love stories. That’s how repetitive romance writing seems to be…
However, once in a blue moon you come across a writer who takes the same old ‘girl next door’ and ‘knight in shining armor ((complete with dents and chinks) and twists them in their own unique style of writing and makes you fall in love with the same old all over again. Anuja Chauhan has hit a hattrick for me in this department.
And Battle for Bittora is, undoubtedly, right at the top of my favorite funny contemporary romance reads.
As I have mentioned in all my reviews of her novels, her stories speak to me on a whole different level because these are based in present day India. However, it would be unjust to not acknowledge the finesse with which she makes her characters so ‘like me’.
And the humor is on another level. I was listening to the book at night with my earphones on so as to not disturb my dog’s slumber, and I anyway ended getting annoyed grunts and sighs from him because I simply couldn’t stop giggling.
Well, regular romance readers would identify with me when I say that I fell in love with the leading male character. Yes, the one with the chinked shining armor. But may I just take the liberty of using this platform to proclaim my undying love for Zain Altaf Khan. “ZAK, I love youuuuuuuuu!!!”
I have kept up till 4:30 in the morning many times, unable to keep the book down. But this is the first book that kept me up till 5:30 A.M. because I couldn’t fall asleep after finishing the book, thanks to the mushy state of my thoughts and the smile plastered on my face. Trust me, I’m not exaggerating when I say that once I finally managed to fall asleep, I had dreams about this story.
Over all, do I need to say anything more? I’m not a re-reader to be honest. But I know for sure that I will be going back to this book again and again in my life.
