All the Light We Cannot See

All Light We Cannot See

It’s rare that you come across a gem by accident. While looking for something else, you stumble upon a one of a kind thing. You might not even realize the value of this thing at first. It might take you a really long time. But when you do, it’s extremely hard to part from it.

This is the story of this book and the story of my experience of this book.

I stumbled upon this book title when I was looking for another book and thought of reading this one as well. Without having read the synopsis, with no knowledge of the author’s works, I dived into this story.

And it was magical…

As I said, it wasn’t love at first sight ( or ‘at first chapter’ would be more appropriate). In fact, for three fourths of the book, I just couldn’t understand why the hell has this author written about such scattered events and characters who seem not to converge even half way through the book.

But this is a book about things that change in one moment, lives that end or are saved in the blink of an eye.

You might wonder that if the storyline was not making any sense to me for more than half the book, why did I persist? Because of the writing. The writing style is really gripping. If you are a fan of books which describe even the pettiest of details, then this is a gold mine for you. And trust me, it is those detailed descriptions that blow life into the characters and bring the incidents of the far past alive.

This is the kind of book that MUST NOT be read in an abbreviated manner. the true essence lies in its depth. So it might be long, but believe me, savour every extended and exaggerated detail of it, because when you reach the end, you would want it to go on.

To sum up, I can just say that if you just want to read  a book which makes you feel like you are peeping into the life of another ordinary person or group of people, definitely pick this one up.

It belongs to that gone With the Wind category of books. It isn’t racing to a climactic end, it’s an experience to be enjoyed for the experience itself….

And be patient with this book. The separate, scattered pieces of these characters’ lives might not make sense to you at first, but it all comes together to paint a beautiful picture in the end.
